Amrish Puri’s 87th Birth Anniversary on Google Doodle, 5 Unknown facts about him

The search engine Google has remembered Amrish Puri today by making doodle of Bollywood’s late “favoirate villain & actor”.

Most of people know Amrish Puri for his character, Mogambo, but Google has made a sketch of his look appered in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).

Amrish Puri played the character of Chaudhary Baldev Singh, father of Kajol (Simran) in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The dialogue of this movie is ‘Jaa Simran Jaa, jee le apni zindagi’, which is quite famous among the Indians.

He was Born on June 22, 1932 at Nawan Shahar in Punjab, Amrish Puri was an actor in the Hindi cinema particularly famous for his negative roles. Prior to the acting, he had worked for 21 years in Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

In the meantime, He fell in love with her collegue Urmila Devi. Both of them later got married. Their two children are Rajiv Puri and Namrata Puri.

There might be hardly a film in the 1980-90s, in which Amrish Puri has not played villain role.

In 1987, Amrish Puri played the role of Mogambo in Shekhar Kapur’s film Mr. India. Due to negative roles in many films continuously, people were afraid of him in real life too.

Before coming to Bollywood, Amrish’s two brothers Chaman Puri and Madan Puri had setteled in Bollywood. Amrish puri also followed his brother’s footsteps, but due to failing in the screen test, he was not selected. However, during this time he was associated with the theater.

As we have mentioned erlier, Amrish Puri had entered into Bollywood in a long time after serving in ESIC. At that time his age was around 40. He got his first break from Prem Pujari movie.

Apart from his negative roles, his positive character also well-loved on screen. His positive rolls in Veerasat, Itihaas, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Ghaatak, etc. have won the hearts of people. He has worked in about 400 films. He has worked with Hollywood director Steven Spielberg in the film Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom.

Amrish Puri passed away on January 12, 2005 at 72 years of age. He was suffering from blood cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome.
